SW:

Your current picture fits you pretty good.  I always like to hear your fighting words.

I thought your previous picture did not do you justice.  If I can remain as sharp in mind and feisty in spirit as you when I advance in age, I would be damn happy.  Heck, I just got my book, Technical Charting for Dummies, and I am never going to master technical analysis.

SW.....its not just you, I started having the same problem months ago.  I think it was probably put in to keep some of us from "taking over the board".

I guess it worked, but like everything else, there are always unintended consequences from trying to control something, as a result you can end up controlling nothing.

Do nothing and have a couple few folks offend everyone, members leave the board, quit contributing or just become lurkers....less posters, less interesting.

I have just tried to shorten up my posts and dont worry about spending as much time on thought development or grammer....I guess that makes the board better.

I know one thing JDH is doing his best to have a good forum, and nothing is perfect, but it is annoying.  Typing faster helps too Smiley.

That's pretty near-sighted if true... there are only a handful of us that keep this board alive anyway.  I'll send a note to JDH if no one else has already.

Onlooker, Thanks

I am an old cav officer and was just tired of looking at the monkey.

BF, if that is the intent (restricting post) then it's mission accomplished cause I don't really have time to deal with it.  Maybe I need a break from this anyway.

fwiw I havent had any problems with the text box.  Not sure what you guys are talking about... Huh

Cant imagine JDH trying to limit posts in that way though.  If he had a problem with what we were doing he'd probably have posted something to that effect.  I'm guessing whatever it is must be some kind of board glitch...

I don't think it's any sinister plot by JDH but when composing a reply in the text box the goes beyond the bottom of the box, i.e. once you need to scroll to view the message all the text below the viewable area cannot be seen when typing the screen just jumps all over the place as you type.  You cant see what you are typing and correcting anything is near impossible.  I normally compose offline and copy and paste in the text box.  But for some reason the formatting is lost and all the paragraphs run together which requires me to have to manually format the document in the reply box.  if the document is too large to view in the 10 or 12 lines allowed in the text box viewable area I may as well shut my eyes and try for separate paragraphs.  In general a pain in the wahzoo.  I first thought it was something going on with my keyboard setup but some others have the same problem.  This was all composed online and without any problems whatsoever.  But I have two lines left to type and I will not be able to see anything I type until it is posted or previewed.  So I stop here.

SW:  Not only am I new to charting and stuff, I am also new to computers, and blogging.  I still have to figure out how to post an avatar, pictures, yellow circles, etc...  These technical problems are mine, and have nothing to do with JDH.

"taking over the board"

I would like to say that prior to my participation with this blog, I noticed that posters were generously making this blog an educational one through their lengthy comments.  This is not a so common occurrence in the world of blogging.

Many other blogs which has hundreds of readers were not educational at all.  Only short burst of titbit information are given.  Because the titbit information was not backed up with detailed explanations and / or experiences, they become useless practical investment information or questionable comments.

So, I think “taking over the board” is often necessary.  That people here, want to and have contributed to this forum on something that they are very familiar with, and educational for other investors.

Some comments I agree with and some not.  But, on this board, people are not here to take over the board to just promote themselves.

"just become lurkers"

Is being a lurker bad? For me, it is not.

A person can feel astute investing in a bull market, but a person must actually be astute in a bear market.  I acknowledged that many of you are experienced investors who know how to profit from a bear market.  So, I would want to give the floor to you because this blog is supposed to about Practical Investment Commentary - No Hype.

So, while you are commenting on something unfamiliar to me, should I (and probably many others) just be a lurker.  Yes.

And, am I still getting an education from your comments?  Yes.

Onlooker...I was kind of referring to some people who were regular posters, and very solid contributors for a long time who left, that probably quietly just come by and take a peek.

The board lost some hard working guys who were also willing to share their work, too bad....

Yeah, Depleted was a great TA contributor who has definitely been missed.  Hopefully he's out there lurking and if we post enough complimentary things he'll come back.

Or we could try threatening him to come back. Wink

been meaning to get an avatar... one of these days...
