Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm starting a fundamental analysis page so that I have a place to run and hide when things get too technical for me over on the technical analysis page!

So, we start with a little info on what fundamental analysis is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fundamental_analysis

Quote
Fundamental analysis of a business involves analyzing its financial statements and health, its management and competitive advantages, and its competitors and markets. The term is used to distinguish such analysis from other types of investment analysis, such as quantitative analysis and technical analysis.

Fundamental analysis is performed on historical and present data, but with the goal of making financial forecasts. There are several possible objectives:

    * to conduct a company stock valuation and predict its probable price evolution,
    * to make a projection on its business performance,
    * to evaluate its management and make internal business decisions,
    * to calculate its credit risk.

Seems to me the government just avoided fundamental analysis by using the bailouts, TARP, TALF, and stimulus till overstimulated ideas to override FA's logical conclusions.

Anybody with me?

Knowing how you like precious metals (me, too) for the current troubled times, do note that Casey Research suggests this silver mining company  -  Silver Standard Resources Inc. (USA)  SSRI  / Silver Standard Resources Inc.  SSO

Quote
Silver Standard has discovered 1.8 billion ounces of silver, along with 23 million ounces of gold.

Will need a geologist to confirm if the above statement is true or not.  But, if there is a steep stock market cliff fall coming up, they target buying below US$17.00.  Below US $15.00, much more buying.  I am currently sitting on the sidelines until it happens.

Has anyone ever put these companies to the test using Altman's Z Score for non-manufacturing firms?

I have a formula on a spread sheet and everyone of these jr. exploration companies look like shit.  In other words the Altman formula takes the information on the latest 10k and computes a score.  The range of the score shows the health of the company.  Most of these we talk about indicate that the bulk of them will BK within two years.  The Altman method is about 96% accurate on research over the last 30 years or so.  Its been around since about 1969ish or so.
